Summary of teen blogs reveals that money can cause stress
By Staff Writer
A variety of sources can lead to stress and anxiety among teens, such as domestic disputes, peer-relationship issues and academic pressure.
A new report reveals that adolescents - like many adults - can be stressed about money. The report, which is titled Teens and Money, is based on blog submissions from teenagers who were asked to describe their relationship with money.
As educators and parents increasingly emphasize the importance of attending college, many adolescents feel pressure to save enough money to attend a reputable institution. In addition, there are a plethora of gadgets that are marketed toward today's youth - such as cell phones and video games. Some kids feel obligated to earn money in order to purchase these items.
On the other hand, the recent recession has exposed teens to the fallout of poor financial decisions. America's financial crisis led to millions of citizens losing their jobs and homes. Due to the economic collapse, today's youth are growing up in a society that places a lot of pressure on making smart financial decisions, which may be stressful for students who are coping with other pressures that are typically associated with adolescence.
Teens who suffer from anxiety disorders or depression may benefit from therapeutic boarding schools, which are designed to help adolescents prepare for adulthood.
