Chronic pain a worldwide problem
By Staff Writer
A new market research report on pain management states that over 1.5 billion people worldwide suffer from varying degrees of chronic pain. In addition, the U.S. is shown to represent the largest regional market for pain treatment.
The research, which was called Pain Management: A Global Strategic Business Report, was announced by Global Industry Analysts Inc. and provided an overview of the pain management industry.
According to the report, the demand for more efficient drugs and medical devices for pain treatment continue to drive this market. An aging population and the lack of pain management therapy are feeding the additional demand for acute and chronic pain treatment.
Neuropathic pain occurs when a nerve is injured, according to the National Pain Foundation. Also known as nerve pain, this potentially chronic problem afflicts approximately 3 to 4.5 percent of the global population, the report stated.
Chronic pain treatment and prevention are said to be major concerns for healthcare authorities around the world. According to the report, new drugs are expected to be released over the coming years.
Individuals who suffer from some form of physical discomfort may want to seek chronic pain treatment.
