Study: Most children can recognize when their parents are feeling stressed
By Staff Writer
A recent study reveals that children can detect when their parents are stressed. Approximately 91 percent of kids who were surveyed cited ways that they know their parents are tense or worried, according to USA Today.
The online survey, which polled more than 1,100 kids between ages 8 and 17, was conducted by Harris Interactive in August. About 34 percent of children reported that their parents yell when they are stressed, while 30 percent said that their mother or father argues with other people in the house when they are under pressure.
Approximately 39 percent of the kids said they feel both sad and worried when their parents are stressed. Almost one in every three children said that a parent has been "really worried or stressed about things" in the past month, while only 6 percent responded "never."
A clinical psychologist told the news provider that it's better to talk to children about challenges, rather than yelling or arguing without addressing the issue in a civil manner.
According to More4Kids.info, it is a parent's responsibility to teach their children about stress and a healthy way to handle it.
