Officials hope youth survey reveals vital information
By Staff Writer
Pennsylvania officials are hoping that the results of a statewide survey will shed light on why many adolescents partake in destructive behavior.
According to The York Dispatch, organizers of the youth survey believe it is the most comprehensive, data-focused approach to tackling children's problems. The survey was given to students in grades 6, 8, 10 and 12 in every district in the state. The results are expected to be released in November.
"This is the first time our community as a whole has moved toward this," a human services professional told the news provider.
The survey results are expected to help school districts apply for grants to develop better preemptive services for troubled teens. The news source reports that the survey will expose problem communities that lack healthy programs for children.
According to the Office of National Drug Control Policy, approximately 30 percent of teens reported illicit drug use.
