Mobile phone forum promotes healthy use of new technologies

One of the leading manufacturers of mobile texting devices recently met with students and educators to discuss the challenges that teens face in technology-obsessed culture.

Officials from LG Mobile Phones attended the Generation Mobile Forum on December 14 in Washington, DC. Other technology leaders, content providers, teachers and teenagers also participated in the event, which tackled some of the dangers of risky phone behavior, such as cyberbullying and sexting.

More than 700 people attended the event, which featured a Skype appearance by actress Jane Lynch, who stars in the popular television show Glee. During the forum, LG highlighted its Text Ed campaign, which aims to help parents address mobile phone misuse by their teens. Rosalind Wiseman, the forum moderator, said that an open dialogue between adults and teens can help reduce the amount of negative behaviors related to mobile technology.

Parents may consider implementing tough love with their problem teens by taking away their cell phones privileges. If this is not effective, adults may consider enrolling their adolescents in wilderness therapy, which separates children from harmful technologies.
