Children who suffer from learning disabilities and anxiety disorders may benefit from yoga, according to educators at a day program in Tampa Bay.

According to Tampa Bay Online (TBO), Stephanie Mullarkey, a third-grade teacher at a day program for kids, has been conducting yoga sessions in her classroom. The educator, who also works as a part-time yoga practitioner, said that the exercising helps students focus and relieve stress. The school's psychologist told the news provider that children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) tend to retain more stress in their bodies, so yoga is an effective way to reduce those feelings.

Yoga is a Hindu discipline that is popular among adults who are aiming to relax their minds and bodies. It involves a series of breathing and stretching exercises that vary in difficulty, depending on the skill level of the class.

According to the media outlet, the Mullarkey has the kids practice poses such as the "tree" and "cobra," which are designed to help improve an individual's balance and focus.

Adolescents who have a learning disability may benefit from other forms of therapy that does not involve prescription medication. One popular method of treatment is wilderness therapy, which aims to instill confidence in problem teens.
