A suicide prevention expert and several high school students appeared on E! Entertainment Television on Wednesday night during a special about teen suicide.

According to Cincinnati.com, the health expert who appeared on the television program is the coordinator the suicide prevention program at the Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center. She educates students, teachers and parents at local schools about the warning signs of suicide and depression, and how individuals should seek or provide help.

She told the news provider that many people who are close with a suicide victim admit, in hindsight, that they could detect emotional or behavioral problems. The E! special sheds light on how children and adults can intervene in a troubled teen's life, thus steering them away from self-harm.

Three individuals who had previously suffered from depression or had suicidal thoughts shared their recovery stories on the TV program, including a male student who attempted suicide when he was 15 years old. He is now attending Xavier University and he works to raise awareness about suicide prevention among troubled teens.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, a nationwide survey of high school students revealed that 15 percent had seriously considered suicide within 12 months of taking the survey.
